The beginnings of my first Fiction masterpiece: "Memory Of A Hunter"

Ch.1 This place has so many memories. Mary had done so many fun things in this beautiful forest with her friend Tom that she could never forget this place no matter what. They had made teepees together, played tag, and even pranked her father when he came to pick them up for dinner—sometimes he’d come home soaking wet from their water balloon surprise attacks. A tear rolls down Mary’s cheek as she thinks of the times past and walks towards their favorite spot where they sat. After walking in the dim light of sundown for a while she arrives at the old willow tree with his initials engraved in the trunk. She holds the flowers to her chest tightly as she looks at the engraving with longing. Tom wanted to be best friends with her but she wanted much more, and once he died in that car crash she regretted never admitting her love for him. We could have had so much more, she thought as she laid the roses down on his grave. Mary always wanted to give up on moving forward but then she always asked herself what would tom want me to do? She sat down with her back to the tree trunk and wiped the soft strands of her brown hair out of her face. As she closes her eyes she says ‘I love you Tom, now and always’ and Mary fell asleep in the waning sunlight.

Ch.2 As Mary opened her eyes her heart stopped cold as she noticed that it was pitch black in the forest. Her Siberian husky Ozzy was at home needing to be fed and the forest was not safe at this time of night. Mary was wide awake and stone cold at those thoughts. I need to get home now! She thought as she started walking towards the general direction of the truck. Along the way she heard cracking noises, which really put Mary’s nerves on end. When she arrived at her truck she noticed something on the hood. She walked over to examine it and she saw that it was four ragged gouges in the metal. What the hell!? She thought as she heard branches snapping in the distance. “MARY!!” She whipped around as she saw the man who yelled her name run towards her. He was all disheveled and his clothes were ragged. “W-who are you? How do you know my n-name?” Mary said in terror. The man had panic in his eyes as he said “no time to talk! You need to get out of here and get home to safety” he turned around and started to run away. Mary was quick and grabbed his arm and twisted him around “What is happening!?” The man looked into her eyes with anger and said “There is so much you don’t know Mary Fay” and he turned around and ran into the night.

Ch.3 As Mary drives back home in the truck dazed by what happened she realizes that she is very curious about what was happened and what she didn’t know. It was almost an uncontrollable curiosity that came out of nowhere. Never mind that, I’ve got to get home, it's definitely not safe out here. She saw the lights of her cabin in the distance and felt a wave of relief wash over her. She pulled into the driveway and got out, still eyeing the scratch mark on the hood. Could it have been a bear? She has had some of her garbage cans ripped open before by a bear. She shook the thoughts out of her head as she opened the squeaky old door of her house and was greeted by her dogs’ smiling face and excited squealing. She got her dog a bowl of food and headed straight to bed with her mind swirling.

Ch4. She saw Tom in his car happy to get home from a late nights work. She was floating in front of him then suddenly she saw lights behind her and tires screeching, and then she noticed a shadow of a man in the window, poised to strike. “Tom look out!” she screamed but it didn't seem to come out of her mouth. Bang!-Mary shot straight up in her bed and realized that she was covered in sweat and Ozzy fell off the bed. Again? It was early in the morning and she could see the sun rays coming through her window. “Damnit Ozzy, I thought i told you you need to stop rolling around” Her dog looked at her with a completely oblivious smile and she couldn’t help smiling herself. She started thinking about what happened last night and became determined to figure out what was going on. “Alright buddy I’m gonna be gone for a little bit, so you be good” she said as she grabbed her hiking backpack and her rifle. Just in case.

Ch.5 As Mary walked through the area in the forest where she saw that man she got the chills. What was going on that night? That's exactly what she was trying to figure out now. As she walks through the forest, ever cautious, she notices the sound of distant footsteps and she starts moving in on them. She sees the man finally, still in his tattered clothes. He seems to be looking for something… she thinks as she grabs onto his shoulder. “What are you doing here Mary!? You need to leave!” he says as he whips around. “And you need to answer my questions! What is going on? What are you looking for? What happened to my truck!?” She asks, almost screaming. The man has a look of submission when he says “okay, okay I'll tell you. You car was just scratched by a wolf. And I'm looking for Tom” The look of shock on Mary’s face is so intense the man almost steps back. “But h-he's dead..” she says in disbelief. “He's not. He was kidnapped and I'm trying to find him for you.” Her vision goes black and she sinks into darkness.
